APATHY JAZZ MANIFESTO
Apathy jazz is apathetic only in name, it is super-energetic in practice.
Apathy jazz is an atrophy of skill/ambition/aspiration as product, and revels in the mess it creates, results in and produces.
Apathy jazz is pure aspiration but is realistic about having the time to acquire skills necessary to do things properly.
Apathy jazz is resourceful and resource-less, it is improvised on every level.
Apathy jazz is a space free from diva pedantry.
Apathy jazz embraces the wonder of dissonance and complications, and marvels as it watches itself getting everything wrong.
Apathy jazz is not a style or aesthetic or cult or set of rules, it is a vague, improperly reasoned or researched conglomeration of ideas and approaches and frames/phrases.
Apathy jazz is an enthusiastic step sideways, open to the unknown and unknowing; so far from perfection it doesn’t pretend to take itself seriously.
Apathy jazz is a moving contradiction, trying to make something from too many things, shamelessly adding more product to the world, but without the aim to create so much as a ripple in a puddle.
Apathy jazz is made to be made, being listened to is a privilege it probably isn’t worthy of.
Apathy jazz is a smile in the face of cynicism and irony.
Apathy jazz probably is, or could be, more than this. But it doesn’t really matter. And it doesn’t really care.
