A NOTE ON THE CREATIVE ENTITIES
The Creative Entities are a kind of disembodied collaborators. They are somewhere in between a pseudonym, a brand and a body of work given a name. They originated as a potential solution to ongoing research into the role of the artist as author in the making and reception of the work, as a kind of idealistic solution that allows the work to be interpreted directly without any prior knowledge of the artist/the artists’ biography to inform the reception/reading of the work. They are a challenge to the role of the artist as the biography that makes their work make sense, that is propped up by their biography and their work is read through their biography, rather than existing as itself, independent of the artist. In recent years I have been collaborating with them variously, occasionally with multiple Entities at a time. The different Entities embody slightly different modes of working, different focusses, different bodies of work, different attempts at starting again, different mediums, different processes and different ideas and concepts.
